Military discounts that stack with Black Friday sales

Most retailers offer a military discount somewhere. Most retailers refuse to let it stack with promotional pricing. The exception list — the retailers where military + sale prices DO combine — is shorter than you'd think and worth knowing.

1. Verify via ID.me once — works everywhere

Most major retailers (Home Depot, Lowe's, Target, Best Buy, REI, Adidas, Nike, Under Armour) use ID.me for one-time military verification. Set it up once, save the credential, use it across every participating retailer. About 15 minutes of setup, lifetime usage.

2. The retailers where the discount STACKS with sales

Home Depot, Lowe's (10% year-round, stacks with sales), Adidas (~30%, stacks), REI (~10%, stacks with member dividend), and most direct-from-brand outlets (New Balance, Carhartt) honor stacking. Best Buy and Target do NOT — military price replaces sale price, not adds.

3. The Black Friday / Cyber Monday timing trick

Many retailers run Veterans Day discounts (~Nov 11) deeper than their Black Friday cuts. Buy the major-spend items (appliances, big-ticket tools) during the Veterans Day window. Use Black Friday for the merchandise the military discount doesn't cover.

4. The non-obvious year-round saver: GovX

GovX runs an invite-only marketplace of military/first-responder pricing across outdoor + apparel brands (Yeti, Patagonia, Vortex, etc.). Discounts typically 20-40% off MSRP, no time limit. Free to join with verification.
