Stop buying knives that snap. Stop overpaying for grinders. Stop.

Look. You don't have to listen to us. But the r/EDC + r/espresso + r/MechanicalKeyboards + r/houseplants threads have been screaming the same things at every new buyer for five years. Here are the mistakes. Here are the not-mistakes. Stop.

Stop buying knives that snap on the third use

$15 "survival" knives off Amazon have welded-on tangs. They snap. Don't buy them. The Mora Companion ($15-$20), the Opinel No. 8 ($15), and the CRKT Pilar ($30) are all under the same price point + last 20 years. Spending less is fine — buying the wrong less is not.

Stop overpaying for grinders BEFORE you have a machine

A $500 grinder + a Mr. Coffee espresso machine makes worse espresso than a $150 grinder + a Breville Bambino. Buy the machine first. Match the grinder to it. r/espresso says this every week + every week somebody buys the grinder first.

Stop buying "trick-light" mechanical keyboards as your first one

RGB everything, double-shot keycaps, custom layouts — all great after you know your typing preferences. Your first mech should be a Keychron K2 or NuPhy Air60 in your office switch of choice (linear, tactile, or clicky — pick one + commit). Add the rest later.

Stop overwatering pothos

Stop. Once a week is too much. The number one cause of houseplant death is overwatering. If you want a plant that survives weekly watering: snake plant, ZZ plant, or pothos that you finally let dry out. The grow-light tier on sale right now doesn't fix the overwatering — only you do.

Stop buying coffee gear during your first month

You don't know what you like yet. The taste differences between equipment are real but only legible to a palate that's drunk 50+ shots. Spend $80 on a Bambino. Drink a month of shots. THEN decide if you actually need the grinder upgrade. The patience saves $400.

The deals are real, even if the article was fun.
